Mark Altmeyer (MBA '88), Chairman of Otsuka Pharmaceuticals will share his thinking on "Thrive or Survive - The Path for the Pharmaceutical Industry" on Friday, December 5, 2014 at the Union League.
Mark Altmeyer's 25 year career in the pharmaceutical industry has focused on launching multi-billion dollar products for U.S. and Japanese companies. He is Chairman of the Board of Otsuka America Pharmaceutical, Inc. (OAPI), an innovative, fast-growing healthcare company that commercializes Otsuka-discovered and in-licensed products in the U.S. He is responsible for working on global business development opportunities directly with Otsuka Pharmaceutical, Co. in Japan and ensuring the success of Otsuka’s long-term business in its central nervous system treatments.
Mark was previously President and Chief Executive Officer of OAPI where he oversaw a diverse and growing product portfolio across the Neuroscience, Cardiovascular, Oncology and Medical Device markets. Prior to joining Otsuka, he developed expertise as a drug commercialization strategist and executive. During more than 16 years with Bristol-Myers Squibb Co. (BMS), he played a lead role in the successful launch and commercialization of many BMS products, including Pravachol®, Glucophage® and jointly with Otsuka, ABILIFY® (aripiprazole). He gained international experience as General Manager of BMS operations in Turkey. He was then appointed Senior Vice President, Global Commercialization, where he led global marketing for BMS’s neuroscience and oncology franchises.
Before joining BMS in 1992, Mark worked for Cetus Corporation, where he was Product Manager in oncology and Business Development Manager. He started his career with Bristol Labs, a division of Bristol-Myers, as a Marketing Associate and Group Product Analyst.
Mark earned his BA from Middlebury College and his MBA in 1988 from Harvard Business School. He is an active participant in healthcare organizations and in his community, where he serves on the Board of Directors for Contact of Mercer County, a nonprofit community service organization.
