New Career Paths: Opportunities for 2015 and Beyond

Nearly five years ago, the HBS Club hosted a panel discussion on the job market for Greater Philadelphia. Fast forward to 2015 and an apparent improvement in job prospects appear to be on the landscape for a number of industries, but . . .

is it the same for all industries (financial services, pharma, etc.) and functions?  The panelists will address not only their own interesting career paths but also provide their perspectives on new career opportunities.

Panelists:

Alyse Bodine is partner-in-charge of Heidrick & Struggles' Philadelphia office and a member of the global Financial Officers Practice. Her search experience comprises corporate and divisional chief financial officer, controller, audit, treasurer, investor relations and tax assignments. She works with a diverse client base including Fortune 500, small- and medium-sized public and private companies, as well as private equity- and venture-backed companies. Prior to joining Heidrick & Struggles, Alyse was an investment banker with a regional investment banking firm, where she was also the founder of a division of the firm’s marketing department. 

She has been involved in the Philadelphia community as both an active volunteer and board member of various professional and non-profit organizations including the Free Library of Philadelphia, the Philadelphia American Marketing Association, the Philadelphia Art Alliance, White-Williams Scholars and the Junior League of Philadelphia. She is a member of W.O.M.E.N. in America, a nation-wide organization aimed toward helping professional women advance their careers through mentorship and leadership training.  Alyse is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania. 

John Kuper is a senior client partner with Korn Ferry where he focuses on communications and technology areas. In addition, Mr. Kuper is a member of the Firm’s Financial Officers Practice.  For more than fifteen years, Mr. Kuper has demonstrated a proven ability to advise senior executives on the process of identifying, attracting and evaluating leaders in order to build successful companies. Throughout his career, Mr. Kuper has completed Board, CEO, CFO, CMO and other senior management searches for technology, consumer services and multinational corporations. 

Prior to Korn Ferry, Mr. Kuper was a Partner and a member of the executive committee with Howard Fischer Associates. Before joining Howard Fischer Associates, Mr. Kuper worked for Heidrick & Struggles, where he conducted searches across various industries with an emphasis on Information Technology positions. Mr. Kuper graduated from Hampden Sydney College and following graduation, served as Assistant Dean of Admissions. Outside of his professional responsibilities, Mr. Kuper is a former Board Member for PhillyCarShare; a non-for-profit organization dedicated to providing community-based car sharing in the Philadelphia area.

Jeff Constable leads Spencer Stuart's Philadelphia office and is a member of their Financial Officer Practice, assisting a diverse array of both large and mid-cap clients in their search for chief financial officers and other senior financial and corporate development talent. He has led client engagements across industries throughout the U.S. and in Europe, including many senior executive and CFO roles at financial services companies and private equity-backed enterprises. He also serves in the Private Equity Practice, where he is active in the broader management of some of the firm’s key relationships, from advising owners and boards on CEO succession planning issues to the assessment of internal leadership talent. From an industry perspective, he brings deep experience in the areas of insurance, consumer financial services, banking, for-profit education, industrial, distribution and business-to-business services.  

Before entering the executive search industry in 2001, Jeff worked at Corporate Executive Board, where he was instrumental in the formation and early growth of the company’s CFO and corporate strategy business lines. Earlier in his career, Jeff was a banker with NationsBank (now Bank of America) and an award-winning high school mathematics teacher. Jeff lives outside of Philadelphia and chairs the board of the Bryn Mawr Rehab Hospital Foundation. He also serves on the advisory board of a middle-market private equity fund within NewSpring Capital. Jeff holds a degree in mathematics from Duke University and an M.B.A. with distinction from the University of Michigan.
