PCMS Presents the Horszowski Trio
Enjoy an evening of chamber music at the Kimmel Center with fellow alumnus and Horszowski Trio member, Raman Ramakrishnan (AB '98). After its stunning PCMS debut in 2016, the Horszowski Trio returns with the current Curtis Institute President and former Principal Violist of the Philadelphia Orchestra: Roberto Díaz.
After the performance, Raman invites alumni to come backstage to say hello.
Hailed by The New York Times as “impressive, lithe, persuasive,” when the members of the Horszowski Trio (Hor-SHOV- ski) – Jesse Mills, Raman Ramakrishnan, and Rieko Aizawa – played together for the first time, they immediately felt the spark of a unique connection. Many years of close friendship had created a deep trust between the players, which in turn led to exhilarating expressive freedom.
Roberto Diaz, viola:
A violist of international reputation, Roberto Díaz is president and CEO of the Curtis Institute of Music, following in the footsteps of renowned soloist/directors such as Josef Hofmann, Efrem Zimbalist, and Rudolf Serkin. As a teacher of viola at Curtis and former principal viola of the Philadelphia Orchestra, Mr. Díaz has already had a significant impact on American musical life and continues to do so in his dual roles as performer and educator.
Following Schumann’s triumphant D Minor Trio and the world premiere of Milwaukee native Daron Hagen’s Trio No. 6, the Horszowski and Díaz journey through Fauré’s Piano Quartet in C Minor - a remarkable achievement in instrumental color, formal clarity, and melodic richness.
