Phillies Managing Partner John S. Middleton, MBA '79 - Speaker, Lunch and Ballgame at Citizens Bank Park!
Welcome alumni, colleagues, and sponsors, as we honor an esteemed Philadelphia leader! Please join us for this special event, lunch and ball game! Phillies Managing Partner & CEO John S. Middleton, MBA '79, will speak about his career and philanthropic endeavors, followed by a mid-day baseball game, Phillies v. Toronto Blue Jays. Reserve Early and Save!!!
John S. Middleton has been a limited partner of the Phillies ownership group since 1994. The Middleton family holds a 48 percent stake in the franchise. Middleton has been the team’s control person and its managing partner since November 2016. In those roles, he is responsible for the overall operation of the club and its compliance with the MLB rules. In 2021, Middleton became one of the eight owners to serve as members of Major League Baseball’s Executive Council. He also chairs the MLB Ownership Committee.
John's primary focus for the organization is to set the franchise on course to contend for world championships and to preserve the club’s reputation as a world-class organization both on and off the field. Middleton reinforced this goal by extending the contract of President of Baseball Operations David Dombrowski for an additional three years, through the 2027 season, after his success leading the club to its eighth pennant in franchise history in 2022.
John and his wife Leigh have been honored with the prestigious Philadelphia Award and have received additional recognition for their efforts to end chronic homelessness in Philadelphia through their work with Project HOME, on whose board of directors Leigh has long served. The Middletons also support education and workforce development through programmatic initiatives undertaken by the City of Philadelphia, the School District of Philadelphia, Drexel University, Philadelphia Youth Network and Philadelphia Academies.
Born in Havertown, Pa., and raised in Haverford Township, Pa., Middleton graduated magna cum laude from Amherst College in 1977 with a B.S. degree in economics and from the Harvard Business School in 1979 where he earned his MBA. He has served as a member of Amherst’s board of trustees and a member of the board of trustees for Penn Medicine.
Robert Teller, AB '75, HBS '77, will moderate the talk.
