Japanese House & Garden Tour with Tea Tasting
Join fellow local alumni for a tour and tea tasting at the Shofuso Japanese Cultural Center in Fairmount park. The visit will consist of a tour of the house and gardens, a tea tasting and fish feeding. Considered the foremost hidden gem in Philadelphia, Shofuso showcases the Japanese aesthetic.
Shofuso was designed by architect Junzo Yoshimura in 1953 and built in Japan using traditional materials. It was shipped to the US and displayed in the MOMA courtyard before being moved to Fairmount Park in 1958. It is decorated by murals created by the famous artist Hiroshi Senju. The authentic garden contains both a koi pond and waterfall and is considered one of the top three Japanese gardens in North America.
